Mindful Monday - May 9th

Good morning, morning, morning… nice to have you back!

We’re kicking things off today with a Tiny Thought from Farnham Street, get ready for it!

“What you avoid today is harder to do tomorrow. Today’s choices become tomorrow’s position. If you put off things today, they don’t magically disappear tomorrow. They just get added to the list of things you want to do.

Don’t wait till tomorrow. Tomorrow is where dreams go to die.”
– FS

Ok, so it gets a little dark at the end, but the message is a good one. I like to think of a concept of making life a little easier for my future self. What can I do today that I’ll be grateful for tomorrow? This is particularly well highlighted when the opposite is in fact applicable, and I find myself thinking “I wish I hadn’t left it to the last minute”. Ring any bells?

What can you do today that will make your life easier and/or better in the future? Aaaaaaand… go!

Prison plants
Continuing the ‘planning for the future’ theme, the sooner a seed is planted, the sooner a tree grows – in this case in prisons. The Orchard Project aims to have orchards in all Welsh and English prisons for the inmates to care for. Caring for plants is commonly associated with positive mental outcomes for those prone to depression, and more trees is good for a variety of environmental factors. Nice one.

Portable power
As the weather becomes more conducive to adventure, the ‘need’ for power on-the-go will only increase. Enter Shine. Shine is a portable wind turbine about the size of a litre of your favourite oat milk, and powerful enough to charge your portables in the wild.

Forest School: not just for kids
The pandemic kept many of us indoors for a long time, but while some of us were staring at the walls, others were embracing the many benefits of Forest Schools. Yep, the kids were well and truly ahead of the parents on this one, they’ve been enjoying the many benefits of mucking about outside while mum and dad had often forgotten what it’s like to get dirt under their nails. Read more here about why it’s important to get lost in the woods occasionally.

And here are some important tips on how we can all help the people of Ukraine. Turns out there’s plenty we can do from a distance…

As always, thank you for reading.

Big love,
